Bladder Control

Overactive Bladder (or OAB) is a medical condition that causes sudden, involuntary contractions of the muscle inside the bladder. This overactive bladder symptom then causes the patient to experience a sudden, uncontrollable and unstoppable need to urinate (called urinary urgency). Overactive bladder may also referred to as urge incontinence. Urge incontinence is a form of urinary incontinence (unintentional loss of urine). Overactive bladder is more common in older adults, however it should not be considered a normal part of aging. It is estimated that overactive bladder affects one in 11 adults in the United States.

The primary symptoms of an overactive bladder are frequent urination, urgency of urination, and urge incontinence (involuntary contraction of the bladder muscle). Overactive bladder can have significant social, psychological, occupational, domestic, physical, and sexual problems on anyone suffering from it.
